What was the problem?

A manufacturer of flavors for the food and beverage industry needed insight into sales and product performance across the enterprise. There was no consolidated platform to help them make data driven decisions.

How we helped?

The One Six team helped the client pick a technology platform that would address their requirements but also provide long term flexibility in a low cost, low maintenance platform.  We worked with the executive team to formulate a set of KPI’s to measure business performance and set a direction for the data integration strategy and analytics platform selection.

What were some of the tools used?

Our team implemented a Microsoft SQL Azure based Data Warehouse to provide a single platform for product and sales analytics. Data was integrated from custom ERP platforms, Excel and HubSpot CRM leveraging Azure Data Factory v2 and SSIS on Azure.  Azure Blob storage and Azure Automation were used for automating the data loads. Reports and Dashboards were developed with Tableau Online for leadership reporting.

What were the results?

Our client was now able to use a single platform to engage with their enterprise product and sales data. They no longer had different reports in different systems with silos of information. The sales teams were better able to target their best customers for upsell and resell opportunities and the product teams were able to understand which products were performing best in the market.

What was the problem?

Our client is the nation’s leading trade association representing the boating industry and provides data and insights to manufacturers within its membership. Their data strategy involved moving away from manual, static report building to an automated solution that supports interactive data exploration.  

How we helped?

The One Six Solutions team supported the selection and implementation of products enabling the data strategy for both the client’s membership as well as internal departments. We provided a solution that is sustainable and easy to maintain for an organization that has a small IT team.

What were some of the tools used?

The data architecture started with a custom web application for members to upload data files built using Microsoft Azure. The files were processed with validation rules and moved to Amazon S3 for initial storage. After data replication into Snowflake enabled by Fivetran, the loaded extracts were transformed via Matillion ELT to create the data model.  Power BI provided users with interactive visualizations of the industry data sets. These architecture components were automated to process data incrementally as new data arrives.    

What were the results?

Our client was empowered to manage data in the the modern analytics environment we helped create and freed to consider new problems that can be solved. The scalable solution allows the organization to operate with cost-effectiveness.  Members can explore their data against the industry now in ways previously not possible. The internal departments can  plan to build a holistic solution in the near future to analyze consumer engagement through multiple channels. Two legacy platforms and their associated maintenance costs were  sunset by the new solution.

What was the problem?

Our client is global IT software and security solutions company specializing in asset management and software monetization. Their goal was to obtain insights into their marketing  initiatives and measure campaign performance across their digital marketing platforms.

How we helped?

The One Six team assisted the client with the initial analysis and implemented additions to their Data Warehouse providing visually rich and highly interactive dashboards. What were some of the tools used?

The Data Warehouse was built on SQL Server 2016 utilizing SSIS for ETL to extract data from various SQL databases and Salesforce. SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) was leveraged for deeper and faster analysis of data. Power BI was selected to visualize marketing campaign effectiveness, lead analysis and other end user reporting.  

What were the results?

One Six implemented a solution that helped the client identity effective marketing initiatives by providing lead velocity, conversion and marketing funnel information for demand analysis.  Insights were used by the marketing team and other executives to identify areas were leads were getting stuck and resolve these bottlenecks.  Organization leadership also leveraged the dashboards to easily understand revenue and expense metrics across campaigns.

What was the problem?

A computer software firm specializing in asset management and software monetization wanted to provide their support team with ability to track their team’s performance and customer review metrics. The One Six team helped the client with the initial analysis of their data systems and worked to enhance the existing Data Warehouse with this data. What were some of the tools used?

The Data Warehouse was on a SQL Server 2016 instance and utilized SSIS for ETL to extract data from multiple SQL databases, Salesforce, and Excel.  SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) was used to construct a tabular model and calculate the required measures for reporting. Microsoft Power BI was selected to build the "Support Insights" dashboard.

What were the results?

The client was able to identify key areas where performance levels were lacking and focus their efforts on those instances to improve their overall performance scores. Valuable insights were used by the support team and management to re-direct their time and resources thereby strengthening their customer relationships and resolving bottlenecks. What was the problem?

What were some of  the tools used?        

The team  implemented a Microsoft SQL Server based Data Warehouse to provide a single  platform for inventory, customer, and sales analytics. Data was propagated to  Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) to create a tabular model that  would serve as the underlying data source for Power BI dashboards and  reports. The required business performance measures were calculated in SSAS .  Power BI Embedded was used to incorporate the reporting functionality into  the end client’s web based customer portal.

What were the results?

The client was able to increase customer loyalty, facility efficiency, and decrease the lack of transparency between management and workers at the plant level. Time to information was reduced from weeks to minutes for end users.  End customers gained a better understanding of their company’s performance levels and were able to anticipate and resolve  issues before they emerged.

What was the problem?

Our client is one of the largest autobody and mechanical repair shops in the nation.  Their retail stores and regional managers were in need of a consolidated reporting and analytics platforms to better understand overall corporate performance, compliance adherence and training programs for their technicians.

How we helped?

The One Six team assisted the client with defining the set of KPIs across each level in the corporate hierarchy.  We worked with the CTO and COO to standardize measurement criteria so they can evaluate their performance against insurance carrier standards for the services they provide.  Interactive dashboards and reports were built allowing for on-demand analysis.

What were some of the tools used?

The Data Warehouse was built in the cloud using Snowflake as the underlying database technology operating in an AWS cloud. Tableau Desktop and Tableau Online were leveraged to create compelling data visualizations to support corporate leadership, regional and retail managers in their decision making.

What were the results?

All levels of the management team down to an individual retail location were now able to consistently view their teams performance and quickly identify areas where action was required.  Compliance reporting with respect to insurance carrier metrics was available online in an easy to use dashboard with the capability to drill into as much detail as required. Corporate training was also able to leverage the reporting to identify what training programs needed to be completed and by which employees.

Our client is a global software company who needed a way to consolidate data and develop an analytics platform to support decision making for their product engineering, customer support, marketing and sales organizations.

How we helped?

The One Six Solutions team assisted our client with business analysis, Data Warehouse design and development to build an Enterprise Data Warehouse. One Six Solutions worked with the organization’s Business Intelligence senior leadership to define application integration requirements and the key metrics to support the functional groups.

What were some of the tools used?

The solution was built upon the SQL Server 2012 platform utilizing SSIS for ETL to integrate JIRA issue data, Pivotal CRM support data and SalesForce.com CRM data. Integration processes to provide near real-time marketing list generation were developed to integrate SalesForce.com data with Eloqua Campaign Management software via API calls. Reports and data visualizations were developed using Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services 2012, PowerPivot and PowerView against a Tabular Analysis Services environment. Excel Services 2013 was also used to provide an analytical environment to the support group.

What were the results?

The project enabled the client’s management team and the product support organizations to analyze and track product bugs and fixes over time. Additionally, it provided the marketing organization a mechanism to cross-sell and up-sell capabilities to customers and prospects by providing targeted email marketing.

What was the problem?

The company had installed “electronic eye” sensors on most of its’ industrial printers but had been unable to harness the sensor data collected to drive actionable operations reporting.

How we helped?

One Six Solutions built processes for intake, “compression” and integration of the high-volume sensor data, combining it with work activity data from the company’s process control system.  We worked with the company’s process engineers to build complete printer-centric and job-centric views of printing operations’ efficiency.  One Six Solutions also developed a web service that could be polled for near-real-time job data by software installed on the printers, enabling printer crews to access detailed information without leaving their printers.

What were some of the tools used?

Sensor data was gathered from Prometheus time series database which was the initial data collection point.  Data was stored in both raw and aggregated form in a SQL Server 2014 Data Warehouse using SSIS for integration. Integrated data from the Data Warehouse was ingested into Qlik Sense to support dashboards displaying the aggregated data for management reporting.  Real-time shop floor dashboards were developed using Grafana.

What were the results?

The solution delivered immediate visibility to printer downtime patterns.  The main “job by printer” metrics dashboard went into use while still in prototype form to satisfy urgent demand for the information it could deliver.  Dialogue between departmental job planning teams and their printer crews increased as it became possible to focus discussion on numbers not anecdotes.

What was the problem?

The company had been stymied in their efforts to obtain milestone and end-to-end efficiency measures of order processes from order entry through shipping.

How we helped?

One Six Solutions integrated order data from multiple systems including order entry, planning, shop floor and shipping data to provide a single consolidated view of an order from start to finish.  We worked with the company’s process engineers and operations leadership to design and deliver dashboards providing visibility to any issues in the process flow of an order.

What were some of the tools used?

Source systems integration was performed using SSIS and the integrated data was warehoused in a SQL Server 2014 database.  Sources included Hybrid (PrintFlow) and Radius manufacturing planning and process control systems.  Integrated data from SQL Server was loaded to a set of Qlik data models for consumption by Qlik Sense dashboards which the team built.

What were the results?

Multiple teams with responsibility for order processes began to use the dashboards in their daily “workouts”.  The proofing team was able to reduce order turn around times in their department by almost 50 percent in the first 6 months using their dashboard.  Durable monitors were installed to the company’s shipping floors for display of the shipping performance dashboards, allowing each shipping department to track their performance hourly.

What was the problem?

The internal IT organization of one the largest professional services firms asked us to help build a custom sales dashboard to view key client and portfolio-level financial and operational metrics. The existing sales dashboard was using aging technologies to pull and aggregate sales and revenue data from slow internal systems. Some of these systems were built for data and report processing rather than real time web use, so the existing dashboard was slow.

How we helped?

We joined their team of developers to help architect and build out the services layer with the explicit goal of sub second response times. Our team built out the caching layer to enable storage of data from downstream systems; we also built processes to periodically refresh data from the internal sources as needed, including real time data from their enterprise service bus. Furthermore we built complex business logic to do financial calculations, real time currency conversion and helped set the standard for modern single page applications within the group.

What were some of the tools used?

The application was built using Web API and .NET OData web services surfacing 10+ internal data sources. To implement the caching layer we used ElasticSearch and leveraged its ability to store large amounts of unstructured data and aggregate it at considerable speeds. We also wrote Java plugins for ElasticSearch to deal with currency conversion and other computations prior to aggregation at the caching layer. The front end was written in Angular.

What were the results?

Our team worked on the project expanding the feature set and user base for 2.5 years helping establish it as a reference architecture for modern single page applications within the organization.

What were some of the tools used?

The solution was built upon the SQL Server 2014 platform utilizing SSIS for ETL to integrate data from five disparate ERP systems. Master Data Services 2014 was used to standardize product and product attribute data. Advanced data visualizations and the data discovery platform was developed using Qlik Sense reading data from the SQL Server 2014 Data Warehouse environment. Development timeframes were increased significantly by utilizing Windows Azure and SQL Server Azure Virtual Machines were deployed as development, test and production environments.

What were the results?

Whereas our client did not have the in-house expertise to know where to start, One Six Solutions implemented a Data Warehouse solution integrating the disparate companies which then enabled our client to successfully measure business performance. Analysis of sales trends and global inventory were now streamlined and consistent. The solution is scalable to support future acquisitions by the firm and additional data elements for future state analytics.

What was the problem?

A large pharmaceutical manufacturer asked One Six Solutions to aid in the architecture and development of their next generation diagnostics and clinical testing instruments. We were asked to write the communication layer for testing and result transmission to other clinical systems, as well as help prepare the system for launch.

How we helped?

The client’s clinical testing device connects to other systems and transmits data using Google Protocol Buffers and health care specific protocols (ex. Health Level 7). We built the communication layer to transmit data based on internal events, as well as deal with incoming messages, errors, connectivity issues etc. We also conducted code reviews, fixed bugs across the system, and documented issues visible to the FDA certification process. We worked closely with different parts of their existing teams that wrote embedded code, clinical testing logic and third party simulators, communicating to them design requirements, existing bugs etc.

What were some of the tools used?

The application was built in Windows Communication Framework (WCF) with a Windows Presentation Framework (WPF) frontend; it communicated with backend third party systems and hardware using Google Protocol Buffers, HL7 and ASTM. The database access layer was written using LLBLGen and Unit Tests were written in NUnit and Moq.

What were the results?

The clinical testing device is in its final stages of FDA certification and is able to communicate successfully with third party devices. We are currently working on post launch features to integrate more devices and orchestrate test samples being mechanically delivered to the product.

How we helped?

The One Six team assisted the client with analysis, architecture and development of their Data Warehouse to provide a single source for employee, financial and warehouse activity data. We worked with the clients executive team to develop a reporting platform to measure KPI’s for employee productivity and worked with them to define a set of standards to measure against these KPI's against.  We also consolidated general ledger financials with the Warehouse Management System’s activity/picking data.

What were some of the tools used?

The Data Warehouse solution was built on a SQL Server 2016 utilizing SSIS for ETL to extract data from various SQL databases and flat files. Tableau Desktop and Server were used to develop data visualizations, dashboards and end user reports. Financial data marts were sourced from Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains.

What were the results?

The solution was built using Treasure Data’s cloud based Data Management platform to support the Data Lake implementation and automated ingestion of data sources.  HIVE and Presto SQL based ELT development was done to aggregate massive volumes of data to support end user reporting and dashboarding.  Tableau data sets were generated on the fly from the Data Lake and published directly to Tableau Online for end user consumption.  Additionally, Data Marts were created in Amazon RedShift to support other reporting needs via Tableau Online.

What was the problem?

The retailer’s Strategy and Analytics teams were experiencing run times ranging from hours to days for queries against the largest data sources on their existing data warehouse, negatively impacting the teams’ turn times for new analyses.

How we helped?

One Six Solutions worked with the retailer’s teams to prioritize problem data sources to be ported into Amazon Redshift, and to gather requirements for content and structural changes to those sources in their new environment.  We implemented the data loads for those sources into Redshift.  One Six Solutions converted Tableau workbooks that the teams had been running against the existing SQL Server Data Warehouse environment to the new Redshift platform.

What were some of the tools used?

Data loads were implemented using SSIS, extracting data from SQL Server then using the ZappySys suite of extensions to interface to Amazon S3 / Redshift.  Tableau workbooks were rebuilt and tested in Tableau 10.5.  The new workbooks’ data sources were a mix of extracts (using Hyper) and live query as appropriate, taking advantage of Amazon Redshift’s processing power for aggregate queries.

What were the results?

Queries from the rebuilt Tableau workbooks showed performance improvements of 1 – 2 orders of magnitude compared with the prior versions sourced against SQL Server.  The retailer’s highest-volume data sources (in the 10’s of billions of records) are now available on Amazon Redshift for general use by the Strategy and Analytics teams.

What were the results?

Our client is the nation’s leading trade association representing the boating industry and provides data and insights to manufacturers within its membership. Their data strategy involved moving away from manual, static report building to an automated solution that supports interactive data exploration.  

How we helped?

What were some of the tools used?

The data architecture started with a custom web application for members to upload data files built using Microsoft Azure. The files were processed with validation rules and moved to Amazon S3 for initial storage. After data replication into Snowflake enabled by Fivetran, the loaded extracts were transformed via Matillion ELT to create the data model.  Power BI provided users with interactive visualizations of the industry data sets. These architecture components were automated to process data incrementally as new data arrives.    

What were the results?

Our client was empowered to manage data in the the modern analytics environment we helped create and freed to consider new problems that can be solved. The scalable solution allows the organization to operate with cost-effectiveness.  Members can explore their data against the industry now in ways previously not possible. The internal departments can  plan to build a holistic solution in the near future to analyze consumer engagement through multiple channels. Two legacy platforms and their associated maintenance costs were  sunset by the new solution.

What was the problem?

The retailer’s Strategy and Analytics teams were experiencing run times ranging from hours to days for queries against the largest data sources on their existing data warehouse, negatively impacting the teams’ turn times for new analyses.

How we helped?

One Six Solutions worked with the retailer’s teams to prioritize problem data sources to be ported into Amazon Redshift, and to gather requirements for content and structural changes to those sources in their new environment.  We implemented the data loads for those sources into Redshift.  One Six Solutions converted Tableau workbooks that the teams had been running against the existing SQL Server Data Warehouse environment to the new Redshift platform.

What were some of the tools used?

Data loads were implemented using SSIS, extracting data from SQL Server then using the ZappySys suite of extensions to interface to Amazon S3 / Redshift.  Tableau workbooks were rebuilt and tested in Tableau 10.5.  The new workbooks’ data sources were a mix of extracts (using Hyper) and live query as appropriate, taking advantage of Amazon Redshift’s processing power for aggregate queries.

What were the results?

Queries from the rebuilt Tableau workbooks showed performance improvements of 1 – 2 orders of magnitude compared with the prior versions sourced against SQL Server.  The retailer’s highest-volume data sources (in the 10’s of billions of records) are now available on Amazon Redshift for general use by the Strategy and Analytics teams.

Our client is one of the largest autobody and mechanical repair shops in the nation.  Their retail stores and regional managers were in need of a consolidated reporting and analytics platforms to better understand overall corporate performance, compliance adherence and training programs for their technicians.

The Data Warehouse was built in the cloud using Snowflake as the underlying database technology operating in an AWS cloud. All levels of the management team down to an individual retail location were now able to consistently view their teams performance and quickly identify areas where action was required.  Compliance reporting with respect to insurance carrier metrics was available online in an easy to use dashboard with the capability to drill into as much detail as required. Corporate training was also able to leverage the reporting to identify what training programs needed to be completed and by which employees.

Microsoft Power BI was selected to build the "Support Insights" dashboard.

What were the results?

What was the problem?

The internal IT organization of one the largest professional services firms asked us to help build a custom sales dashboard to view key client and portfolio-level financial and operational metrics. The existing sales dashboard was using aging technologies to pull and aggregate sales and revenue data from slow internal systems. Some of these systems were built for data and report processing rather than real time web use, so the existing dashboard was slow.

How we helped?

We joined their team of developers to help architect and build out the services layer with the explicit goal of sub second response times. Our team built out the caching layer to enable storage of data from downstream systems; we also built processes to periodically refresh data from the internal sources as needed, including real time data from their enterprise service bus. Furthermore we built complex business logic to do financial calculations, real time currency conversion and helped set the standard for modern single page applications within the group.

What were some of the tools used?

The application was built using Web API and .NET OData web services surfacing 10+ internal data sources. To implement the caching layer we used ElasticSearch and leveraged its ability to store large amounts of unstructured data and aggregate it at considerable speeds. We also wrote Java plugins for ElasticSearch to deal with currency conversion and other computations prior to aggregation at the caching layer. The front end was written in Angular.

What were the results?

Our team worked on the project expanding the feature set and user base for 2.5 years helping establish it as a reference architecture for modern single page applications within the organization.

What were some of the tools used?

Source systems integration was performed using SSIS and the integrated data was warehoused in a SQL Server 2014 database.  Sources included Hybrid (PrintFlow) and Radius manufacturing planning and process control systems.  Integrated data from SQL Server was loaded to a set of Qlik data models for consumption by Qlik Sense dashboards which the team built.

What were the results?

Multiple teams with responsibility for order processes began to use the dashboards in their daily “workouts”.  The proofing team was able to reduce order turn around times in their department by almost 50 percent in the first 6 months using their dashboard.  Durable monitors were installed to the company’s shipping floors for display of the shipping performance dashboards, allowing each shipping department to track their performance hourly.

Reports and data visualizations were developed using Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services 2012, PowerPivot and PowerView against a Tabular Analysis Services environment. One Six Solutions built processes for intake, “compression” and integration of the high-volume sensor data, combining it with work activity data from the company’s process control system.  We worked with the company’s process engineers to build complete printer-centric and job-centric views of printing operations’ efficiency.  One Six Solutions also developed a web service that could be polled for near-real-time job data by software installed on the printers, enabling printer crews to access detailed information without leaving their printers.

What were some of the tools used?

Sensor data was gathered from Prometheus time series database which was the initial data collection point.  Data was stored in both raw and aggregated form in a SQL Server 2014 Data Warehouse using SSIS for integration. Integrated data from the Data Warehouse was ingested into Qlik Sense to support dashboards displaying the aggregated data for management reporting.  Real-time shop floor dashboards were developed using Grafana.

What were the results?

The solution delivered immediate visibility to printer downtime patterns.  The main “job by printer” metrics dashboard went into use while still in prototype form to satisfy urgent demand for the information it could deliver.  Dialogue between departmental job planning teams and their printer crews increased as it became possible to focus discussion on numbers not anecdotes.

What was the problem?

A large pharmaceutical manufacturer asked One Six Solutions to aid in the architecture and development of their next generation diagnostics and clinical testing instruments. We were asked to write the communication layer for testing and result transmission to other clinical systems, as well as help prepare the system for launch.

How we helped?

The client’s clinical testing device connects to other systems and transmits data using Google Protocol Buffers and health care specific protocols (ex. Health Level 7). We built the communication layer to transmit data based on internal events, as well as deal with incoming messages, errors, connectivity issues etc. We also conducted code reviews, fixed bugs across the system, and documented issues visible to the FDA certification process. We worked closely with different parts of their existing teams that wrote embedded code, clinical testing logic and third party simulators, communicating to them design requirements, existing bugs etc.

What were some of the tools used?

The application was built in Windows Communication Framework (WCF) with a Windows Presentation Framework (WPF) frontend; it communicated with backend third party systems and hardware using Google Protocol Buffers, HL7 and ASTM. The database access layer was written using LLBLGen and Unit Tests were written in NUnit and Moq.

What were the results?

The clinical testing device is in its final stages of FDA certification and is able to communicate successfully with third party devices. We are currently working on post launch features to integrate more devices and orchestrate test samples being mechanically delivered to the product.

What was the problem?

Our client is a manufacturing organization that was formed by the purchase of a number of individual manufacturing competitors across the globe with a goal to integrate data across all locations to support consistent and accurate reporting within Sales, Marketing, Manufacturing and Finance.

How we helped?

The One Six Solutions team assisted our client with business analysis, project management, Data Warehouse architecture and development to build an Enterprise Data Warehouse supporting a standard information management architecture across the firm. One Six Solutions worked with the organization’s executive leadership team to define requirements and create a standard set of KPI’s for the organization.

What were some of the tools used?

The solution was built upon the SQL Server 2014 platform utilizing SSIS for ETL to integrate data from five disparate ERP systems. Master Data Services 2014 was used to standardize product and product attribute data. Advanced data visualizations and the data discovery platform was developed using Qlik Sense reading data from the SQL Server 2014 Data Warehouse environment. Development timeframes were increased significantly by utilizing Windows Azure and SQL Server Azure Virtual Machines were deployed as development, test and production environments.

What were the results?

Whereas our client did not have the in-house expertise to know where to start, One Six Solutions implemented a Data Warehouse solution integrating the disparate companies which then enabled our client to successfully measure business performance. Analysis of sales trends and global inventory were now streamlined and consistent. The solution is scalable to support future acquisitions by the firm and additional data elements for future state analytics.
